This month's topic of discussion is COOKING HEALTHY FOOD.

You may please share any post, queries, your favourite health food pics or recipes or start a discussion on cooking secrets of grandmother etc. to participate in this exercise.

 All the best, get going

Monica: I cook daals, Kala and safed chana and rajma without oil. Not even one drop of oil. Sometimes I add ghee on the top for taste and health benefits.

Make 'tadka' masala on nonstick pan in low to medium flame. When it start sticking, add a bit of water and start stirring again.

It tastes awesome and no bloating.

Xyz member: I cook everything in 'kachi ghani til' oil and sometimes in desi cow ghee.

Monica: 'Kachi ghani' Is good for cooking 'sookhi sabzi'

Madhur: Non-stick pans are harmful for health Monica.

Using mud, iron or steel pans, natural or metallic vessels but without additional chemical processing & coating etc. shall safeguard from chemical ingestion.

As you are cooking without oil, better to boil directly with spices and then prepare 'tadka' can use pure oil or 'deshi' ghee and add on top.

Now you don't need to use non-stick pans as well.

Monica Chopra: True. I do that sometimes too

Madhur: I too cook using different processes , it helps to keep variety and balance things out.

Just keeping in mind that healthier way of cooking is practiced more number of times, it's a higher ratio , works good enough.

The idea is that even fried food at home is much better than from outside, main reason being that oil is not heated for very long time and of course quality of ingredients, cleanliness etc. Stuff like chips, sweet dish or spicy 'chaat' items , if cooked at home , taste quite good,  are fresh and without chemicals.

Such snacks can be added to regular cooking at home for kids and food loving adults too.

Richa: Very true. Also one can choose the medium of frying.

Madhur: Yes, indeed. I use unfiltered sesame , groundnut or mustard oil usually. Earlier I was buying such snacks from local shops (to avoid preservatives in packaged ones) but doing it at home has enhanced quality of energy and health throughout the day, It is important to keep frequency and quantity of any less healthy food like fried, sugary, bread etc. as less as possible.

For example , once or twice in a month some home made delicacy can be consumed in limited amount, body can manage that much. People who are healthy and kids may take more often like once a week or so.

A balanced diet with good quantity of vegetables, greens , fruits , nuts, sprouts, pulses & carbohydrates (roti & rice) daily is great.

It is important that food is cooked conservatively for health & is eaten fresh for maximum benefit.

In today's lifestyle, most of us are not able to give required importance to food, hence there exist, so many health issues.
