Query by Manoranjan:
Should we take curd or 'lassi' in rainy season? Please also provide the reasoning behind it?
Responses:
Roopa:
Eating curd should be decided based on the 'prakruti' whether one's body is vaat/ pitta/ kapha type. Generally, Kapha prakruti people need to be careful, when they take curd.
Madhur:
Digestive power is low during rainy season. Curd needs certain temperature and digestive power for digestion and can cause difficulty in flow or clogging in digestive tract if left undigested.
In more humid period, curd may not set properly using regular process at home. During this time curd may produce mucous when consumed and is advised not to be taken.
Due to such reasons curd is not recommended in mid rainy season which is mapped to 'Bhadrapada' or 'Bhadon' month of Hindu calendar. The actual time period shall be as per location, climate of a place and may differ by few days or weeks for different people.
Generally after the onset of monsoon and in winters , consumption of curd is reduced by health conscious people. However, we can have some curd in the initial monsoon ('Saawan' month which lasts till mid August in 2019). After that it is recommended to avoid for 4-6 weeks (as a precautionary measure), until around last week of September, this year.
Another point to note is that as per cold nature of curd and digestion requirements, it shouldn't be taken in the dinner i.e. after sunset as well.
