Fasting during monsoon

There is an ancient tradition of fasting during 'Saawan' month of Hindu calendar. This maps in monsoon, between July, August timeframe of English calendar. This is considered a suitable time, for multiple reasons for example: -digestive power is slightly reduced - less activity possible due to rain -food needs are comparatively less -the weather is not harsh but moderate so body can take fast comfortably etc. The idea of fasting in this month is actually good for health of body, mind and spirit. Many Hindus take weekly fast on Mondays, during this month, as guided by religion. Some people also fast or restrict few foods for entire month. This is again deeply thoughtful for health reasons as per ancient & Ayurvedic guidance. Anyone looking for detoxification or maintaining good health, (whether Hindu or not) may plan a minimum of 2-4 fast, during this time. Pimples

Query by Raina & Madhumati : Any natural care for pimples, which works in your experience? I am using Aloevera gel with Vitamin E capsule at night, is it correct for pimples? Adds Raina Responses: Toshi: Yes, it prevents bacteria from infecting acne wounds & helps in healing. Aloevara will help in reducing the redness & swelling. Madhur: We don't suggest going for capsules or medicines but using natural foods for healthcare. Pimples do indicate a need of cleansing internally. Hence, going for 1. Green Coriander grinded with a pinch of cinnamon powder as one remedy 2. Diet or food (Toshi suggested few) Which may help to get rid of any bacteria or toxins causing skin issues and provide nourishment as needed. 3. Applying aloevera externally for natural skin care is ok if it's helping in any way. Mridula: 1. Take very sour or 'khatta' curd and smear all over face. Wait till it dries and wash off. Fantastic result ..both on pimple...

General info on Natural Healthcare

Three suggestions: 1. Alternative therapies (especially Acupressure in my experience) have specific treatment for different diseases, emotional & mental health issues. For example: Anxiety, Stress, Depression, or just general lethargy, sadness are all treatable. This is one of the best and most sought after aspect of treatment by patients. An enhanced ability of feeling more active & positive after a few days of therapy, helps them live a better day. 2. Home remedies may help relieve a problem completely or partly. If your issue continues after a few days/weeks of regular natural therapy, then it might be better to add any alternative medication like Ayurveda, Homeopathy etc. These work wonderfully for holistic healing and do not cause side-effects. Get rid of the issue first and then continue with home remedies, for a few more weeks, to manage good health, as needed.

FAQs

Query by Poonam: I am not against these therapies but being a medico I only find their preventive and supportive significance. For curative allopathy has to be in initial phase with slow shift to naturopathy when disease starts coming in control. Response by Madhur: Dr. Poonam, good topic to discuss. We all have been there and as you are a medico , you have done a deeper dive and have that kind of belief in the system , may be. It takes a while, generally a few months / years to realise how much cure (not just relief) is possible in alternative medication treatments and develop confidence in this system. I have been amazed myself, especially at the cure of root cause and long term, high quality treatment. E.g. I had cough coming up every winter 2-3 times a year. I always took allopathy for decades and it took 1-4 weeks of several syrup, antibiotic and other medicines to subside, came back again after few months. Last 4-5 years I am off it , after doing alternative therapy nat...

When to avoid curd

Query by Manoranjan: Should we take curd or 'lassi' in rainy season? Please also provide the reasoning behind it? Responses: Roopa: Eating curd should be decided based on the 'prakruti' whether one's body is vaat/ pitta/ kapha type. Generally, Kapha prakruti people need to be careful, when they take curd. Madhur: Digestive power is low during rainy season. Curd needs certain temperature and digestive power for digestion and can cause difficulty in flow or clogging in digestive tract if left undigested. In more humid period, curd may not set properly using regular process at home. During this time curd may produce mucous when consumed and is advised not to be taken. Due to such reasons curd is not recommended in mid rainy season which is mapped to 'Bhadrapada' or 'Bhadon' month of Hindu calendar. The actual time period shall be as per location, climate of a place and may differ by few days or weeks for different people. Generally a...

Weight management

Query: Please share any suggestion to lose weight naturally, which someone you know or yourself found useful & working well, asked by Gagandeep, Reena, Vanshika Response by Roopa: Bitter gourd vegetables help to lose weight Madhur: One tip: Eating early dinner and only fruits between 7 pm and 8 am , if hungry can help in weight loss over time and gain other health benefits too. Another important practice is not to eat anything unless hunger is felt.  Generally,  most people tend to eat a sweet,  have some tea,  biscuits or chocolate,  ice cream etc.  some time after the meal. This is just for fun  or social kind of eat,  when they are almost full.  Anyone looking for weight loss or good digestion must avoid this habit. In between meals or when slightly hungry,  consuming fruits, fresh  fruit juice (without sugar) , in moderate quantity,  is okay. Also read my post on this: https://inaweofnature.blogsp...
